Join T.A.P.E. Los Angeles for a non-toxic hand processing Super 8 workshop where we’ll learn how to mix household chemicals into a photo developer and process our Super 8 reversal film as a b/w negative. No prior film experience necessary!
The evening of the workshop we’ll learn the ins and outs of the Super 8 Minolta XL camera that is available to rent from TAPE and shoot 1 roll of Super 8 b&w film. You will learn how to access the film from a Super 8 cartridge for home processing and watch a demonstration on loading a 50’ Lomo tank which is available to rent from TAPE. The film will then be processed by the chemicals we mix as a group. Participants will walk away with a list of eco-processing resources and confidence to do it on their own.
The film will then be scanned by artist-run Origins Archival in Hollywood, located within the Kodak house on Sunset Blvd.
This workshop will be co-facilitated by local filmmaker and teaching artist Erica Sheu. Erica’s films and expanded cinema works have been programmed domestically and abroad in numerous festivals. Erica has taught hand-processing workshops with Mono No Aware, makes most of her work on film and has extensive knowledge about the photochemical process she is excited to share with this group.
