Stop Motion AI Animation Workshop w/ Derrick Schultz

Join Whammy! for a special workshop with media artist Derrick Schultz as he stops by for one full day, presenting this workshop and an evening screening.

You've probably used AI text-to-image tools, or the latest text-to-video tools. But in this workshop we'll look at a less common technique to generate stop motion-like animations. In Stop Motion AI Animation we'll talk about the concepts behind the technique and then look at two techniques: converting video to individual frames, and then creating our own simple stop motion animations to style using AI tools.

This will be a hands-on workshop where every participant will make two short animations. Bring your own laptop computer, your own videos and ideas! (Laptop not required)

No previous experience with AI tools is required for this course. Some knowledge of video tools (Adobe Premiere, Davinci Resolves, Adobe After Effects, etc.) is helpful but not necessary. We'll be using Eden (https://www.eden.art/) for this workshop but will also cover similar options in Runway, Midjourney, or other popular AI image tools. You do not need an Eden subscription for this course, but it is recommended to create an account.

Looking for inspiration? Derrick Schultz, the workshop lead, has made similar animations like his Floral Zombification via Attention Node Networks, Editation on Violence, and his collaboration on The White Stripe's Black Math music video.
