SOV SEP: Venus Flytrap (1987) + Love Bites (1988) with Kevin Glover in person! pres. by Hollywood Entertainment

Every year we show exclusively shot-on-videotape works throughout September for something we call: SOV SEPTEMBER. Join us for this year's month-long exploration into the depths of some of the most under-appreciated margins of filmmaking. Usually no-budget, usually put together by small crews of friends (and family members, and neighbors), sometimes over-the-top gross, sometimes transgressive, and almost always like no other film you've ever seen - this series is for cinematically adventurous travelers only!

Join Hollywood Entertainment for an evening of queer, deranged, and romantic SOV classics (on the verge of their 40th anniversaries) with producer/writer/vampire and erotic horror pioneer Kevin M. Glover and special guests in person!

In Love Bites, novice vampire killer Jake Hunter finds himself falling for his first target: the dashing Count of West Hollywood (Glover). He’s 347 years old… and still getting carded. Will Jake steal his heart… or will he drive a (lubed) stake through it? Decidedly sweet and silly while textured with social commentary about the AIDS crisis and homophobia, this is a groundbreaking gothic gay romance for the ages. A video reviewer declared, "I'm not gay, but I liked it."Called "one of the better direct-to-video productions" in Splatter Movie Guide Vol.2, Venus Flytrap is a vicious slice of Pasadena hot tub party menace. Three tough punks rob a record store then follow a yuppie couple to a party. There they embark on a shocking crime spree soaked in champagne and bad taste. It’s a thriller full of sex, horror, Russian roulette, a jar of pickled penises, out-of-control masculinity, and gay panic.

Created on shoestring budgets with Campfire Video founder Marvin Jones who produced beefcake VHS movies and compilations of cinematic men’s nudity called Movie Buff, these are classics of the genre made to be experienced with a crowd of tape-crazed deviants.
