Making and Sharing Video Files with FFmpeg, pres. by TAPE

FFMPEG is a free open-source tool running "under the hood" of many popular video players and websites (YouTube, etc.). In this introductory course, you'll learn to edit, share, and reformat video files with FFMPEG instead of buying expensive video editing software. An introductory course open to all levels, ideal for archivists, artists, and caretakers of home movies.

The workshop includes:  

A fun and playful introduction to using the command line, which is a direct way to access your computer’s tools.

A step-by-step walkthrough for downloading and setting up FFMPEG on your computer

Detailed instructions and walkthroughs of some basic commands to:

- Make a test video file from nothing

- Convert video files between "lossless" and "lossy" compression formats

- Trim files

- Combine two or more files

- Convert video files into gifs!

Other cool tools, tips, and essential resources for advanced FFMPEG uses!

Please bring a computer - Mac and Windows both work!
