It's election night, feeling naughty? Then come join TAPE for an erotic night of experimental cinema! To kick off a month's long installation of Julie Orlick's The One Person Cinema, the program will feature parts one and two of the gay, French archival S&M film Les fantômes du hard in the microcinema. Blending shot-on-video smut with diaristic reflection, Lazare Lazarus unearths gay porn archives from Marseilles' legendary BDSM bar Le Mineshaft. Activating the archives of its founder, Lazare unearths a complex history of hardcore gay sex and the ghosts its left behind.
PLUS, don't miss your chance to see Orlick's erotic short DÉSIR, looping in The One Person Cinema. The installation explores a long distance relationship with taboo BDSM dynamics, voyeurism, performance, vulnerability, and projection (literally and figuratively). The work incorporates elements of 16mm experimental film, theater, sculpture, and public space for someone to be alone in, forcing one to view the film with no disturbances. While in the space, the audience member can be viewed from the outside while also being in a secret fantasy world. The One Person Cinema is a small 5’ x 3’ x 6’ room purposely built to premiere DÉSIR, equipped with headphones, a theater chair, carpet, and a viewing hole from the outside with a two-way mirror.
Huge thanks to Graham Akins, the lab technician in the UCLA sculpture department, for all of his help and generosity.
