T.A.P.E. presents intro to 16mm and Hand Processing film!
This 16mm intensive is a comprehensive run down of the Bolex Rex-5 camera and its features, plus a crash course on developing your own film by hand in a Lomo tank. We will cover best practices for shooting using a light meter and will work collaboratively across one 100' roll of 16mm film, discussing and experimenting with built in features of the Bolex and finishing the day off by processing the film ourselves using household chemicals.
Each participant will get 15 seconds of Double X Negative black and white film to shoot in and around Whammy!'s neighborhood, Echo Park Lake and in between. We'll then head back to Whammy! to mix our chemicals using a caffenol recipe developed by Mono No Aware and discuss more alternative chemicals processes available for hand processing your films.
Along with a crash-course on different film stocks readily available and where to get them, we'll also go over different labs to work with for lab processing and scanning as an independent filmmaker. After the workshop all participants will receive a 2K scan of what they shot.
All participants will get ~15 seconds of footage and will work as a team to help eachother execute and properly expose shots.
This is multiple workshops in one with equipment, materials, film stock, processing and post production scanning all included. Taking this workshop will create proficiency among participants and get them ready to rent the Bolex camera with T.A.P.E. equipment rentals, and other camera houses in Los Angeles.
