Office Hours are open! T.A.P.E. "professors" (who also happen to be professional A/V archivists) are holding a two-hour workshop/open hours session designed to give you the space and guidance to finally clean up that messy hard drive.
We will discuss basic concepts indigitalpreservation, walkthrough commoncare tasks for storage devices, answer questions, and showcase some helpful free and open-source software.
Participants will learn about tools for:
* Identifying duplicate files
* Batch renaming
*Re-formatting files
*Generating a list of all the files in a folder or device
And even some digital preservation tools for:
*Generating checksums (taking a digital file fingerprint)
*Migration with fixity (sameness) checks
*Normalizing files to standardized formats
*Assessing the longevity of a particular file format
