B MOVIES: 3 Films by Beth B & Scott B

Emerging from New York's No Wave movement of the late 70s and early 80s, artists and filmmakers Beth B and Scott B made a series of shorts and features together under the moniker B Movies, often featuring NY legends like Lydia Lunch and Bill Rice.

We are thrilled to present new restorations, courtesy of Kino Lorber, of 3 of their super-8 films - G-MAN, LETTERS TO DAD, and BLACK BOX in a program mirroring their only "official" VHS release:

G-MAN (1978) [33 min]

"... Max Karl, the commanding officer of the Arson and Explosive Squad is polarized between a perverted private life over which he relinquishes command and the public image of a commanding officer as presented by the media." -- Anna Sui, New York Rocker

LETTERS TO DAD (1979) [12 min]

"... the almost lyrical LETTERS TO DAD, is a ... meditation on authority that superimposes the spectre of Jonestown over the relatively fresh faces of the parapunk art world. ... the film takes on a musical form -- like a 20th-century ballad composed ot subliminal behavior cues, advertising testimonials, and the text of the National Enquirer." -- J. Hoberman, Village Voice

BLACK BOX (1978) [20 min]

"... BLACK BOX climaxes with a ten minute electronic barrage of sight and sound which hypnotizes as it repels." -- Roy Trakin, Soho Weekly News

"It's easy enough to loathe BLACK BOX, as many people do, but I find it impossible to dismiss." -- J. Hoberman, Village Voice
