Analog Video Digitization Workshop

Ever wonder how T.A.P.E. digitizes home videos? Get a peek behind the curtain and take a look at our digitization equipment and workflows! This mix of hands on and lecture will get you more informed about the digitization process and introduce you to some next steps for setting up your own archival station! Taught by T.A.P.E. Technical Director Jackie Forsyte using our museum-quality digitization setup.

The hands on portion will introduce participants to:

- Routing analog video signals

- Distinguishing audio and video cables

- Setting broadcast levels using a processing amplifier

- Identify transfer errors

- Using open-source preservation software vrecord

- Quality controlling digitized files

Participants will walk away with a better understanding of:

- The “how” of analog to digital conversion

- Quality versus Price point of analog to digital converters

- File Formats best suited for preservation

- Scaling digitization projects for budget

- Making choices for your own project

T.A.P.E. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to the preservation, exhibition, and creation of analog media. We are based out of Whammy!
