A double feature from legendary pink film director Hisuyasu Satô! We are proud to present the L.A. restoration premieres of LUSTMORD (1987) and KYRIE ELEISON (1993), restored by Vinegar Syndrome and courtesy of Muscle Distribution.
LUSTMORD
Eiji (Yutaka Ikejima) is a lonely, nerdy teen who is obsessed with creating a serum capable of breaking down the barrier between pleasure and pain, much to the dismay of his research physician mother, Yuki (Kiyomi Itō). One day, Eiji decides to put his serum to the test by slipping it into the experimental tranquilizer that Yuki is planning to administer to three young woman as part of her own lab study, to horrifying results.
An early effort by Satô, Lustmord is a nightmarish meditation on the fusion of sex and death that was later remade into the notorious V-Cinema classic, Splatter: Naked Blood (1996).

KYRIE ELEISON
A socially-isolated medical researcher (Kiyomi Itô) begins a series of bizarre experiments that she hopes may heal her boyfriend (Takeshi Itô) who has been left comatose after an accident. But as her wild experiments in wiretapping lead to increasingly violent and masochistic results, the lines between reality and nightmarish fantasy begin to irreparably blur.

Muscle Distribution is a new film distribution company with a heavy repertory slant from historian, programmer, and filmmaker Elizabeth Purchell. Borne out of an understanding of the role that accessibility plays in shaping cultural histories, we’re dedicated to complicating and expanding the canon by shining a light on works that either never received their proper due or that have unjustly faded into obscurity, and championing uncompromising new works by some of today’s most exciting underground filmmakers. We love scrappy, misfit films that don’t fit into any particular box.
