Nominated for the Palm d'Or at Cannes, The Time That Remains is an intimate, semi-autobiographical portrait of Palestinians living as a minority in their own homeland from the time Israel declared its independence in 1948 to the present day. Completing a trilogy that began with 1996's Chronicle of a Disappearance and continued with Divine Intervention in 2002, The Time That Remains is the most ambitious, wide-ranging film of the trio, spanning 60 years of life in Nazareth via four vignettes drawn from director Elia Suleiman's own family history.Throughout, Suleiman applies an absurdist comic sensibility to his ruminations on the changes in his homeland after 1948, and the ways in which Palestinians have tried to maintain some sense of continuity in their lives ever since. Synopsis:

An examination of the creation of the state of Israel in 1948 through to the present day. A semi-biographic film, in four chapters, about a family spanning from 1948 until recent times. Combined with intimate memories of each member, the film attempts to portray the daily life of those Palestinians who remained in their land and were labelled “Israeli-Arabs,” living as a minority in their own homeland.
